An Actual Blog, A Word Of Warning, Some Ideas For The Blog, And Clarification On Something

Okay, so I told some people about jumping on the blog bandwagon and they complained that I wasn't actually blogging because I'm just telling stories that I like. So I've decided to put actual blog posts in between the story telling to get them to shut up.

I know that no one has read or is reading this blog when I'm writing this, but I might as well post it as I think it because some people like to read the archives of blogs they stumble upon, and I'll forget this very good advice to myself, or just not follow it otherwise, as I very seldom do.

Never research Urban Legends and creepy stories late at night, especially when you can't sleep. You will need a lot of caffeine in the morning. Although it is a good way to start an all night study session, makes you want to do anything other than sleep.

I really should have known better, I did a report on Jack The Ripper back in high school and made the same mistake... But since those events were real and I made the double mistake of looking at the crime scene photos... Yeah, no sleep for a week.

Oh well, I'll probably forget this little tidbit of advice to myself when I'm bored a few hours before I intend to fall asleep and decide to do some research for this blog. I'm forgetful like that.

Thank god for ADHD medications, because all you need is one can of soda after popping those babies to stay up for the day after not a wink of sleep, but the two o'clock crash hit's hard if you don't have some more around lunchtime... If you remember to have lunch with the suppressed appetite they ones that keep you up also tend to give you.

I'm thinking of spreading the content to Old Wives Tales and rumors, including one's featured on Mythbusters, because I really like that show. Besides, some things that they can't cover on that show (because scientific experimentation is impossible) need to be explained and debunked in a less fun way, research and statistics. And I will also include some stories featured on the Darwin Awards and A Thousand Ways To Die that have been proven to be untrue, but to good of stories not to tell. I also want to place my own theories on why the story is appealing to hear, tell and retell, especially the Urban Legends. And for the sheer fun of it, where I think the story came from and why it was thought up. I'm going to edit my first post to include this when I'm done with this one.

I might also try telling them in short story form, because I wan't to be a novelist and that is good practice, but that will be based on how much time I have.

And as for clarification, I'm no folklore expert, and I'm still in college. Although I would really like to be a folklorist when I'm not writing, I'm more likely to go into Anthropology or Sociology, and hopefully, I can include my passion for folklore into them. Especially considering the mythology of a culture is a great way to get a look into the morals and other aspects that aren't all that evident from observation and interviews.

So all in all, I'm just a young woman that appreciates old myths and good campfire stories.

I wonder if you need to be an expert in folklore to collect urban legends in a book and publish it... Is it possible?

Werewolf post should be up on Monday at the latest.
